BabelSummary: Abstract The official press as a daily fact, does not esca- pe of the dimensions of the discourse, since it acts as a space of public construction in which the information helps to build a vision and par- ticular sense of the world. Based on the above, the present research is set in theories such as the discourse analysis proposed by Teun A. Van Dijk, the semantic metafunctions developed by Michael Halliday and the Brown and Levinson's model. This project has the objective of identif- ying the social image of the Colombian teacher through the discourse of the press during the years 2015-2016, taking into consideration the newspapers El Espectador, El Tiempo y El País. The conclusions drawn from the corpus, consti- tuted by news around educational quality deter- mined that the Colombian teacher did not have opinion and that government spokespeople had high participation in the journalist text, who made implicit judgments that conveyed a nega- tive image of the teacher.
