| Summary, etc | En 2003, la Academia Nacional de Ingenieros de Estados Unidos, ANI (National Academy of Engineering, NAE) publicó “Un siglo de innovación” (A Century of Innovation) con el propósito de celebrar los “20 logros de la ingeniería que transformaron nuestras vidas” durante el siglo XX, desde el automóvil hasta el Internet. Cinco años más tarde, la ANI prosiguió con los “Grandes desafíos” para la ingeniería en el siglo XXI e incluyó la generación de energía solar a bajo costo, proveer energía por medio de fusión nuclear, asegurar el ciberespacio, y potenciar la realidad virtual. Sin embargo, únicamente se mencionó, muy indirectamente, el desafío más grande de todos: cultivar una reflexión más profunda y crítica por parte de ingenieros y no-ingenieros a la par, sobre las formas en las que la ingeniería está trasformando cómo y por qué vivimos. |
